“Produced by students at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication and E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, the award-winning Soul of Athens constantly strives to set the bar for visual storytelling and has been placed in the same competitive arena as National Geographic, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.” – 2010.soulofathens.com
I was fortunate enough to work on this year’s Soul of Athens project as the Web Design Senior Producer. The project as a whole was the largest website that I have ever been apart of and it is something that I am really proud of. From the beginning, the team divided content up in to 5 separate editions based on what each story was about and we launched each edition two weeks apart to help our viewers more easily digest the individual stories without being overwhelmed.
This year’s site was also revolutionary in that it was the first Soul of Athens site to be built using HTML5 making it completely accessible to both iPhone and iPad users. By heavily incorporating social media and focusing making an intuitive navigation experience, this site has smashed its predecessor’s early visitor numbers. The site design also earned national recognition by being named a semi-finalist in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards.
